GENESIS

HEIGHT 3FT (1M)
POLISHED STAINLESS STEEL
1995

"The never ending

renewal of life"

"GENESIS is fabricated by using the same Borromean Rings that INTUITION and CREATION are formed on, but this time I have used three rhombuses, the Celtic fertilty symbol.

I think this is my favourite of the three sculptures using the Rings, because it has the most harmonious concept of Gestalt.
The Collins Dictionary gives the definition of this word as follows:- `a perceptual pattern or structure possessing qualities as a whole that cannot be described merely as a sum of its parts'.
In this case the plains of the sculpture cross at right angles, and the polished surface acts as a mirror, creating false images, which try to trick the mind.

I am delighted that it is in the centre of the quadrangle of the main buildings of the University of Wales, Bangor. It can also be seen at the Isaac Newton Institute, Cambridge."
