COURTSHIP DANCE

HEIGHT 3FT (1M)
POLISHED BRONZE
1982

"Universal prologue to creation"

Following the singularity of childhood comes the pairing of adolescence. Each section of COURTSHIP DANCE is cut from an Ovoid, the symbol of Life. As in LOVE KNOT I cast two pieces and mounted them together so that the shapes are reaching out to each other, yearning to touch, and to become one, and form DEPENDENT BEINGS.

This dance image comes from a sight I saw many years ago in the Outback of northern Australia when I was a cattle drover on the Fitzroy River stock route. Pairs of giant Brolgas, 5 foot high, would leap into the air, twisting together, bills clacking as they sparred, in a courtship dance.
